Refining 제련

Gravity publishes Zero's refine rates in two places and they disagree in 174 of 200 cells, every one of them in your favour. Which table to trust, what each refine level gives you, where the better stones come from, and what a refining event actually changes.

Refining is the only system here that destroys things

Everything else in the game is additive. Refining is not: below +10 a failure takes the item, the zeny, and every card socketed into it.

A success raises the item's refine level by one and shows a SUCCESS message. A failure, using ordinary stones below +10, destroys the equipment along with the cards in it. Game guide That is the whole reason the rest of this page exists: the difference between a 35% and a 55% attempt at +8 is the difference between two outcomes that are not symmetrical. Disclosure

From +10 upward the system changes character. Over refine uses its own stones — Bradium and Carnium rather than Oridecon and Elunium — and failure no longer destroys the item outright: the refine level drops instead, by 3 with the monster-dropped stone (with a 20% chance of losing the equipment anyway) or by 1 with the NPC-exchanged high-density version.

Two official tables, and they disagree

Gravity publishes Zero's refine rates twice. The numbers do not match — not in one cell, in 174 of 200 — and every difference favours the player.

The one most people find is the game guide's refining page, which this site mirrors. The other is the probability disclosure at probability.gnjoy.com/ROZ, which Gravity publishes because Korean law requires a game's odds to be disclosed. Four Zero maintenance and event posts link to it.

2025 note

Where they conflict, the disclosure is the better figure: it is published under a legal obligation rather than as documentation, and it carries Gravity's own edit marker dating its last refine revision to 2025-04-30 — a date the game-guide page has no equivalent of.

Mirrored untouched at Systems › Refining. Kept here because it is what most English sources have copied, and because the difference is the point.

“Special” means you used a better stone

The page prints the two columns and never defines them. The difference is which refine stone goes into the attempt.

Every equipment type has a plain stone, and the ones that matter have enriched forms of it. The plain stone gets you the normal rate; an enriched one gets you the special rate. The page's own materials table is what pairs them — it lists Oridecon beside Enriched and Highly Concentrated Oridecon at the same refine cost, and Elunium the same way for armour. Game guide

Highly Concentrated stones are not simply better. They cost 20,000 zeny against 10,000, they can only be used on equipment already at +7 to +9, and on failure the refine level drops by one instead of the item being destroyed. Game guide That is the trade the whole system turns on: at +8, armour is a 20% attempt with plain Elunium and a 40% attempt with an enriched one — and the concentrated version converts the loss from “item and cards destroyed” into “back to +7”.

Which stones actually exist

Read from the client at build time, not from the page — because the page prints a special rate for all five equipment types and two of them have no enriched stone to earn it with.

RefinesPlainEnrichedHighly concentrated
Lv1 weapon Phracon
Lv2 weapon Emveretarcon
Lv3–4 weapon Oridecon Enriched Oridecon Highly Concentrated Oridecon
Armour Elunium Enriched Elunium Highly Concentrated Elunium
Weapon, over refine Bradium High Density Bradium
Armour, over refine Carnium High Density Carnium

Level 1 and level 2 weapons have no enriched stone. They refine with Phracon and Emveretarcon, and the client ships no enriched or concentrated form of either — yet the official table still publishes a special column for both, reaching 90% at +8 where the normal rate is 60%. Those two columns describe an attempt there is no item to make.

Above +10 the columns converge, and the stone pairs explain why. Over refine uses Bradium and Carnium, whose high-density versions do not raise the success rate at all — they buy a smaller failure instead, −1 refine level rather than −3 with a 20% chance of losing the equipment. Game guide Which is exactly what the rate table shows: identical numbers in every column from +11 up.

Where the better stones come from: Thor's Flame

The official page says the enriched stones come from an “NPC exchange” and leaves it there. The NPC is Thor's Flame, it stands in the smithy beside the refiner, and its price is Gel Star.

Thor's Flame combines minerals. Among the four tables it offers, one turns plain refine stones into their enriched forms — and every recipe costs Gel Star, the cash-shop currency, on top of the zeny. Game guide That is the part worth knowing before planning around the special column: the better rates are gated behind a purchased item, not behind farming.

CombineGel StarZenyResult
Oridecon1500,000 Enriched Oridecon
Elunium1500,000 Enriched Elunium
Enriched Oridecon41,000,000 Highly Concentrated Oridecon
Enriched Elunium41,000,000 Highly Concentrated Elunium
Bradium51,500,000 High Density Bradium
Carnium51,500,000 High Density Carnium

Each step consumes one stone and yields one, so a Highly Concentrated Oridecon is one Oridecon plus 5 Gel Star and 1,500,000 zeny, in two passes through the NPC.

The same NPC combines ten concentrated or high-density stones with Mithril and 2,000,000 zeny into a Blacksmith Blessing. Game guide Its other three tables are ore and mineral conversions that have nothing to do with refining — iron and steel into low grade minerals, coal into medium, Elunium and Oridecon into elemental stones and then into gems.

Refining events, and what they actually change

“Refining event” is an umbrella over four different things, and only one of them changes the rates in the table above.

They run several times a year — the achievement events alone have published winner lists in January 2024, June 2024, February 2025, July 2025, October 2025, February 2026 and June 2026, with another running from 2 September 2026. 2026 note What a given one does varies, so the announcement for that month is the only thing that settles it.

1. Higher success rates

The version that changes the numbers on this page. The September 2023 event raised the rates for +10 to +12 specifically 2023 note, and the January 2025 event raised them without naming a range. 2025 note Gravity has never published the event rates as a table. When the event ends the rates return to the ordinary ones. 2022 note

2. An achievement drawing

The most common form, and it is a lottery, not a reward. Refine a level 4 weapon or any armour to a target level during the period and you are entered into a draw for refine tickets — in September 2026, +10 entered for a +11 ticket with 50 winners, +11 for a +12 ticket with 30, +12 for a +14 ticket with 10, and +13 for a +15 ticket with 5.

2026 note

The entry rules are where people get caught out:

  • A refine ticket alone does not enter you. If you used one, at least one successful refine of your own must be recorded — reaching +12 with a +12 ticket is not an entry, and failing back to +11 afterwards is not either. Succeeding to +13 after it is.

  • Once per character name, not per account.
  • The highest level reached enters every tier below it automatically, so a +13 is also in the +11 and +12 draws.

3. Better odds of finding the stones

The September 2026 event raised the appearance rate of the four HD refine stones rather than the refine rates themselves. 2026 note Worth reading carefully: an event that makes stones easier to come by is not an event that makes refining safer.

4. Packages

Every event is also a sale. September 2026 offered boxes of 30 stones with 3 Blacksmith Blessings at ₩24,900 each, and account-limited packages of 60 stones with 10 Blessings, in two rounds. 2026 note

The nineteen days the page was wrong

Published refine rates have been wrong in public before, and Gravity paid compensation for it.

From the 5 October 2023 maintenance until 15:30 on 24 October, the normal +10 to +12 refine rates shown on the homepage did not match the rates the game was actually using. The game was correct throughout; the published table was not. Gravity confirmed it, corrected the page, and compensated every account — and, for players who had spent special refine stones on +10 to +12 attempts in those nineteen days, returned the stones along with a +10 armour and a +10 weapon refine ticket. 2023 note

It was not the only misprint that autumn. Six weeks earlier a maintenance notice had published the refine-event rates under the headings before update and after update, when the two columns were in fact normal times and during the refining event. Gravity corrected the post the same day. 2023 note And in November 2022 two refine bugs were fixed at once: success rates were applying differently on the Sakray test server, and the DEF gained from refining armour was applying differently as well.

2022 note

What each refine level gives you

Weapons gain ATK and MATK; armour gains DEF. The weapon tables are per weapon level, and the step is not constant.

Weapons

The basic effect is the flat increase the status window shows. The special effect is an additional amount on top, which the page describes as varying from a minimum of 1 up to the tabled figure — so the special column is a ceiling, not a guaranteed value.
